21 Day Challange (DC) FAQ's

Why should I do the 21 DC?

Our desire and joy is to help you get into the habit of daily coming into God’s presence so that you may KNOW Him, learn to HEAR His voice, and DO as He says. This is what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. Conventional wisdom stated; that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, thus we have come up with a simple plan to get you started in this life changing adventure of seeking Him first.  Since the Gospel of John has 21 chapters, it seemed the logical conclusion to use it in the challenge.

Can I skip a day?

Yes, but remember we rarely skip a day of eating physical food. We make sure we eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner.  Shouldn’t we take the same care with our spiritual food? To be honest, there really is no reason to skip a day of getting to know Jesus. If you CHOOSE to miss a day, it will be your loss of a great blessing. He gives gifts every day to those who CHOOSE to receive them.

Do I have to do it first thing in the morning?

No, but often the battle for who we are going to serve each day is won or lost first thing in the morning. The moment you open your eyes, you have to settle the issue of to who you are going to give the first fruits of your day: yourself or God. He has been kind enough to give you breath for another day so the least you can do is give Him the first 30 minutes of your day.

What if I can’t get through an entire chapter in one day?

No problem, just start where you left off the next day. It really doesn’t matter how long it takes you to do the Challenge. The point is that you are cultivating the habit of spending time with Jesus every day and getting in the habit of hearing of His voice.

What if I read a chapter and don’t hear God speaking to me?

That is impossible! Right now you are reading these words and hearing these thoughts; thus, we are speaking to you even if you do not hear an audible voice. Anyone can hear God speaking. When you read His words, He is speaking to you.

Two tips that will increase your capacity to UNDERSTAND what you are hearing:

1) PRAY and ask Jesus to open up your heart to understand His words.

Were not our hearts burning within us while he (Jesus) talked with us on the road and opened Scriptures to us?

Luke 24: 32

Every morning, before you read His words pray and ask Him for help to understand what He is trying to say to you.

2) TRUST the Holy Spirit within you is teaching you everything you need to know.

But when the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14: 26

Jesus promised that His Holy Spirit would be your helper. His promise to you is that He will teach you and remind you of everything you need to know to live out each day.

What if I don’t feel anything as I read the chapter?

Never go by your feelings because they are just an emotion and cannot be trusted. God does not promise “feelings,” He promises His presence and His guidance.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5 & 6
